What are your hours of operation and where are you located?

We are located in Hayward, California. Visit our contact page for a map and directions. On Monday, Wednesday and Friday, we are available from 9:30 – 12 and from 2 pm – 5:30 pm.

What is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a natural way to achieve powerful changes, quickly and effortlessly. How does hypnosis work?

Our minds work on two levels, the conscious and the unconscious.  We make decisions, think, and act with our conscious mind.  The unconscious mind controls our habits.  In the relaxed state, known as hypnosis, we can communicate directly with the unconscious mind.  This is why it is so quick and easy to change habits of a lifetime with hypnosis.

Is Hypnosis safe?

A:   Hypnosis is very safe. When working with a qualified hypnotist, such as Dr. Newell, a hypnosis session feels like a very focused daydream.  Usually you will feel relaxed when doing hypnosis.  Hypnosis is and of itself is a very pleasant experience.  It is a time to let go of the other thoughts of the day and to focus on the issues on which you wish to work.  Professionals have been using hypnosis for over 200 years; no one has ever been hurt by going into a hypnotic state.  Hypnosis is one of the only therapeutic methods available that enables rapid success and where there are no risks or side effects.

Can I be hypnotized?

A:  Yes, you can!  You already have been, even if you are not aware of it.  It’s easy to go into hypnosis, and we can help you feel safe and secure when you allow yourself the experience of a hypnosis session.  Normal, everyday hypnosis occurs when you are driving down the road and you lose track of time. We also go into hypnotic states prior to falling asleep, when we are focusing on a book or television program, or at many other times.

When you come in for hypnosis session, following the instructions of the hypnotist will ensure that your hypnosis session is pleasant, relaxing, and therapeutic for you. 

Will I be asleep?

No. A relaxed state is the only similarity. You will be much more aware of all that is going on in a very focused way, though being relaxed.  You’ll actually be much more aware of what is happening around you because of your relaxed and open state.

Is it possible to get stuck in hypnosis and not come out of it?

No. Being stuck implies that you are not in control of your experience. You will never be out of control, you will never lose consent, and you will not lose awareness of who you are, what you want to accomplish through your hypnosis session, and what is happening around you.

Is hypnosis new?

Evidence of hypnosis has been found as far back as 3,000 BC in the Egyptian dream temples. Until chloroform was discovered, hypnosis was the only method for anesthesia. And in 1958, the American Medical Association accepted hypnosis as a useful tool for therapy.

What is self hypnosis?

Self-hypnosis is hypnosis that a person performs on him or herself.

Can anyone learn self hypnosis?

If you are willing to take the time and apply yourself, you can learn how to best utilize self-hypnosis techniques. If this is your main goal, having a guided session of self hypnosis, so you can experience a deep trance and how to utilize it for your own personal positive change. If you are interested, let Dr. Newell know.

Can a person be hypnotized against their will?

Movies and television have popularized this myth, however, in a clinical session used for therapeutic purposes, you are always in control of your own mind, your thoughts, and your experience. Your consent is critical to the success of any hypnosis session.

Can a person be made to perform any immoral or criminal act in hypnosis?

If you do not give your consent to a practice, you cannot be made to do anything beyond your control. Hypnosis is a completely voluntary act wherein you always remain aware. You’re always aware and able to hear, to talk, and to make decisions.  At any time during the session you even have the ability to get up and leave if you desire. 

Will I tell all of my secrets in hypnosis?

Contrary to Hollywood mythology, hypnosis will not cause you to tell all of your secrets. You will always be aware of what you are saying, who you are, and what you want. You can tell Dr. Newell anything you feel is relevant to your situation at hand, but it is not necessary. Hypnosis does not require that you tell anything to your hypnotherapist, it only requires consent and a desire to change.

Will I remember everything afterwards?

That depends how deep into hypnosis you are, but generally most people do remember either everything or certain parts of the session. Afterwards you will find that certain suggestions will resurface in your conscious mind. These thoughts will produce changes in your behavior or way of thinking and feeling.

How will I know if I am hypnotized?

Most people cannot tell the difference between the hypnotized and the waking states.  Some people feel relaxed and lethargic others feel lightness.  One thing that people do notice is an inexplicable change in their daily behaviors.

How does hypnosis help me kick the smoking habit? 

Because smoking is a habit, it is controlled by the unconscious mind.  Because hypnosis communicates directly with the unconscious, this is the only method that makes sense! We can help you effortlessly transition into the healthy lifestyle of a happy non-smoker – it only takes sixty minutes to quit.

What can I expect during my smoking cessation session?

Sessions typically take 60 minutes. Dr. Newell will explore the triggers and unconscious beliefs that have kept you smoking. These unconscious beliefs are often the reason many people have had trouble stopping smoking in the past, despite maybe wanting or trying to quit. This is followed by a short, relaxing hypnosis session where he will make suggestions to your subconscious mind that reinforce the new ideas and concepts.

Why is it important to quit smoking?

Smoking kills 1 in 10 adults worldwide. It greatly increases the risk of developing heart disease and cancer. Females who smoke are morel likely to experience infertility and difficulty conceiving while smoking males report a 50 percent increase in sexual impotence. In addition to tobacco, cigarettes contain up to 600 additional additives including formaldehyde, arsenic, and lead.

What does hypnosis feel like?

Most people cannot even tell they are under hypnosis, and there is no special feeling. Hypnosis is simply a very relaxed state of mind. You are completely aware and in control at every moment. You will simply feel very comfortable and relaxed.

How should I choose a hypnotherapist?

No state licensure is required to practice hypnosis, and anyone can legally provide this service. We strongly recommend seeking out a practitioner who is a certified hypnotherapist (C.Ht.) with advanced training in hypnosis, and experience in the area you are seeking assistance in.

Are there any side effects from hypnosis?

The only side effects are the beneficial ones. You may feel more relaxed afterwards or feeling more positive about what ever you sought hypnotherapy for. Hypnosis is a perfectly natural state.

How does it feel to be hypnotized?

Everyone feels different. Some feel like there very heavy and others feel as though they’re floating away. Most people agree that they feel more relaxed than they ever have before. Like a very deep meditation, which allows your brain to slow down and relax.

I went to a hypnotherapist before and it didn’t work. Does this mean I’m not able to be hypnotized?

The most common reason for failure to induce hypnosis is lack of rapport with your therapist or you were not ready for the changes. You must know and believe you can change. It’s also good to go with your intuition and choose a therapist you trust and feel comfortable with.
